Making an Adjustable Ingot

I got tired of the ingot moulds that the supply companies sell. To often they are rough and the result is that you struggle to remove the gold. Also, they have no adjustment so you cannot cast a short piece of metal without having to put in something to dam the material being cast.

So I made a simple one like this. The piece of square bar that is in the ingot and the two outside are for  casting different thicknesses of metal. I sprayed it silver so that the photos show up better.

This is how it is set up for casting a 10mm piece of metal.

This would be for a longer square rod.

Here I would cast a thin rod. The whole ingot measures 200mmx50mm. The walls are 10mm square bar. I just welded it onto a 3mm flat stock of steel on the outside only.

That leaves the inside nice and crisp

This is a piece of gold that I have cast .See how easy it is to remove.

Another thinner piece .No sweat to remove and I can adjust the length as I want, or to how much material I have. I have used this ingot mould for seven years now and it is really a nice addition to my tool set.
